There’s something special about each young lady I come in contact with through H.E.R. Foundation. I thank God for allowing Megs and I to start this organization almost two years ago. This year we had the pleasure of hosting our 2nd annual prom makeovers with Mays High School and let me tell you; it was AH-MAZING! We got a chance to sponsor 4 deserving young ladies whose families could not afford to send them to their junior and senior prom this year. This year we did it a little different. We required the young ladies to apply so we could make sure everyone had a fair chance. So, they were required to fill out our application, provide a transcript, a teacher recommendation, and a short excerpt on why they should be chosen. Some of their stories had me in tears! After choosing four young ladies we spent some time getting to know them and making sure they had everything they needed to make their big day special.
This day would not have been what it was if it was not for our wonderful sponsors. Private Label Extensions sponsored hair extensions, their 3D Mink Lashes, and video footage of the girls big day. What made it so fun was the girls got to go into the actual showroom and choose the hair and lashes they liked the best. Hair and lashes are definitely up there on the best friend list for girls…if you didn’t know!
Our whole goal for our prom makeovers is to make the girls feel and look beautiful on their special day. With the help of our team of stylist and makeup artists, we were able to do that. Special thanks to Celebrity stylist Jaiden of The House of Kin, Hair stylist Bianca Moreland, and MUA Renelle Atkinson.
The day started off with the girls meeting us at Nail Talk for them to get their nails done. After we left the nail salon, we went over to the DoubleTree hotel downtown Atlanta for the girls to begin their prepping process, Yes the one with the delicious Otis Spunkmyer cookies :-). After getting their hair and makeup done they got dressed in their beautiful gowns that were sponsored from Fit For a Queen Atlanta, which in my opinion is one of the best formal gown boutiques in Atlanta. Their staff is amazing and the pieces are to die for. We had HD, an Atlanta-based female videographer capture some beautiful moments of the girls as we did their send off with their friends and family. Before going to prom we sent the girls to one of Atlanta’s best Jamaican restaurants, Negril Village to have dinner for them and their dates. Thanks so much to Clive over at Negril for supporting H.E.R. Prom Makeovers two years in a row.
The prom makeovers are one of my favorite things we do with the organization. Being able to take the burden off the parents of making sure their daughter goes to prom and has everything she needs is a blessing for me in itself. They were each so grateful and wore their gowns like true Queens. Although they were beautiful on the outside for prom it only enhanced the beauty they possessed on the inside. Building genuine relationships with our girls means a lot to me because I’m able to keep up with them and see how much they progress moving forward. This year was amazing and I am truly excited for next year.
